Week 3: Developing Shape Language

Building off of the establishment of our chosen artist styles, this week we worked to apply those styles to our designs. This was especially true for our characters, where we worked hard to exaggerate the shapes and proportions to further match the Sam Nielson style. For the time being we are focusing on the overall shapes,

In the future, we will be further investigating how the sculpted effect of Nielson's art is accomplished through color and shading. As for now, we are solidifying the shape language of each character so the designs end up looking uniform.

Many of these elements will apply to environmental designs as well—buildings associated with the antagonists will utilize plenty of harsh lines and angles, though the overall aesthetic of the Walled City will be curved inwards towards the eye, so that it feels claustrophobic and haphazard.
